Find domain mismatches

Compare the URL, Domain and True Domain dimensions in Analytics to find impressions where the declared site isn't where the ad actually ran.

A domain mismatch happens when the site declared for an impression isn’t the site the ad was actually served on. This can be a sign of domain spoofing. The Pixalate Analytics dashboard has three dimensions that show where your impressions come from, so you can compare them side by side.

The dimensions

DimensionWhat it shows
URLThe domain populated in your Pixalate measurement tags.
DomainThe domain Pixalate detected.
True DomainThe actual domain the ad was served on, regardless of how many nested iframes it’s in. Pixalate detects it with proprietary technology, and it’s available for 75–85% of impressions.

For full definitions, see Dimensions.

Find mismatches

  1. Open a report under Reports (for example, Domains). See Run and customize reports.
  2. In Results by Dimension, select Add Column and add URL, Domain and True Domain.
  3. Add the metrics you want to judge the impact by, such as Gross Ad Counts and IVT.
  4. Look for rows where the three values don’t agree, especially where the URL you passed differs from the True Domain.
  5. To focus on one site, use Apply Filters to filter by URL, Domain or True Domain.

The Pre-Set Reports group also has Domain Mismatch and Subdomain Mismatch reports. These dimensions are available in the standard reports, but only in some pre-set reports. Pre-set reports are optimized for load speed and may not have every filter. If a pre-set report doesn’t offer them, use the matching report under Reports.

Keep watching

Save the view and schedule it to arrive daily, weekly or monthly, so new mismatches show up without you running the report by hand. See Save, schedule and export a report.
